Development of restoration mortars and artificial stones for use in restoring cultural heritage sites made from volcanic tuffs

Abstract Many historically significant buildings and cultural heritage sites are made of volcanic tuffs. These subject to a progressive weathering partly in ruinous conditions. Preparing suitable stone replacement mortar for repair work or even whole stones these rocks is great interest. During the quarrying tuff rocks, more than 40% material rejected cannot be further used. Utilizing this material, production materials with optimized properties restoration severely damaged natural represents resource-saving measure preservation buildings. In addition effective use waste, artificial materials, contrast very heterogeneous tuffs, offer constant quality consistent properties. A exploitation can lead sustainable usage resource minimize interference environment. This study describes development mortars creation utilizing source from Mexico Armenia. The resulting shows similar properties, aesthetics, behavior like original rock, while different could optimized. Petrophysical as well rock were analyzed along developed stone. As hydric thermohydric expansion processes important factors durability investigated which, except pore structure cement concrete matrix, show high correspondence terms macroscopic appearance technical compatibility was investigated.
